Okay so I voted for "American Idol" for the first time tonight, and while I know it is for a very good cause, I still feel a little dirty. I probably voted around 50 times, I voted mostly for Jordin, and then equal amounts for Chris, Melinda, Blake and Lakisha.
If you haven't heard, News corp (Fox's parent company) is donating 10 cents for every vote made tonight for the first 50 million calls, for a total of up to $5 million (the voting period was extended from 2 to 4 hours to virtually guarantee they reach the 50 million vote level). Coke, Ford, AT&T, Allstate and Exxon Mobil are also making donations and will serve as official sponsors for the event.
The 2 hour results show will be hosted by Ellen Degenerous, and according to Wikipedia will include many celebrity actors and performers, such as Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Helena Bonham Carter, Forest Whitaker, Teri Hatcher, Borat, Helen Mirren, Jack Black, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Daniel Radcliffe, Kelly Clarkson, Rascal Flatts, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Quincy Jones, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox and Il Divo. Donations from viewers will be taken by phone or internet during the live show, check out where the money raised will go.
AI also announced that Bono will meet with the six American Idol finalists to talk about the work of ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History and how the Idol audience can help. The Idol contestants also will perform "American Prayer," a song written by Bono and Dave Stewart about the AIDS emergency in Africa.
I am realy glad that One is involved in the fundraiser. I have been wearing a One bracelet for a couple years now, pretty much since Brad Pitt told me to (I think I am on my third one).
It should be an impressive show, so even if you don't regularly watch the Idol you should check it out.
Who knew that Waste Management was so green?

I was a first time Idol voter last night too. Voted about 10 times because it is for a good cause...and because I don't want to see Blake go home. I didn't know that Ellen is hosting tonight. That is awesome! I DVR her show everyday and LOVE it. Tonight's Idol is going to rock!
