A Great Wednesday Night of TV

(Of the scripted variety at least, not so much with the reality programs)

"Friday Night Lights"(Wednesday NBC 7) and "Lost"(Wednesday ABC 9) were both fantastic episodes. I already consider these 2 of the best shows on TV, but both episodes completely delivered everything I could want from any given hour of television. Friday Night Lights
Tonights Friday Night Lights confirmed the fact that Tim Riggins is the best character on TV(I wish I hung out with him when I was in 4th grade) and Taylor Kitsch may be the new Chris Pratt. On "Everwood" Pratt slowly transformed Bright Abbott from a one-dimensional dimwitted doofus into a person that we cared about and rooted for(Not to mention his work as the hilarious Che on "The O.C."). Tim Riggins started as a high school drunk who had given up on everything but football, but Kitsch has turned him into an interesting character that while still flawed and filled with self doubt, I now root for every week. Really all of the characters on the show are great, but tonights episode made it clear that Coach Taylor is ready to take Sandy Cohen's place as TV's best dad.
This is a show that is getting better each week and I am very sad that there are only 3 episodes left this season. I am also sad that the show isn't getting better ratings (the recent poor ratings have a lot to do with the "American Idol" juggernaut), but there's not much of a chance that this week will be better. Friday Night Lights is competing against "Bones"(FOX) and "Jericho"(CBS), both of which I like a lot, but this week because of the NCAA tourney "Survivor" took Jericho's place. Just a reminder Survivor is the devil. I have said it before, and I will no doubt say it again, this is a show you should give a try. The pilot episode is available for free on iTunes, and the entire season is available for free online.

Then came "American Idol" which gave us a good look into America's racism. I was excited by the fact that the 4 best singers this season were all black girls(I was imagining a lot of people being upset by that), but I never would have guessed that one of them would be eliminated this early. First of all, I thought Stephanie was bad on Tuesday, but overall she has definitely been much better than Phil, Gina, Haley(who is now "the hot one" and will be safe for awhile) and Chris Sligh. I don't even mention Sanjaya who actually makes me feel sick every time he sings-he is horrible, and must be eliminated immediately.
Jordin and LaKisha are my picks for the final 2, and even though Melinda may be the best singer, I can't see her winning unless she can find a neck(I can't decide if she reminds me more of a frog or a turtle). At this point, the ethnic cleansing of the contestants has become pretty standard year to year(I haven't quite cracked the Sanjaya puzzle yet). But this year LaKisha, Melinda, Jordin and Stephanie started out as the 4 best singers BY FAR, there should have been no controversy, there weren't any close calls. Stephanie not only didn't deserve to go home, she shouldn't have even been in the bottom half. Chris Richardson was the other half of the bottom 2, so that kind of blows my racist theory out of the water, but it is a theory that I am sticking with.

Kate

Lost was the perfect way to turn around the of bummer Idol. We found out how Locke ended up in a wheelchair and we also found out "more" about the island(without anything being fully explained). Lost has been on an unbelievable run of episodes over the past couple weeks, and tonight did not let us down. A Locke episode is almost a lock to be a good one because he is such an interesting character and an unusual bad ass, but tonight we learned more about his connection to the island in addition to filling in some of his past. It was also very good to see Jack again, and I have been meaning to say for awhile that Kate is soo hot. Watch it here for free with "quite possibly the sharpest video you've ever seen on the web."

M-R: I don't think the pilot of FNL is available for free on iTunes anymore. Also I fully agree about last night's episode. TIM RIGGINS! Love it that he got it on with the "mid thirties (my ass)" mom next door. Let's also give LILA some props for trashing her father's dealership. That was awesome!
