If everyone truly understood what "keep right except to pass" means the roads would be much less hazardous and I could get where I'm going with much less aggravation and I could get there quicker.
But that isn't really left lane pride, that's more stupidity and bad driving.
The real problem is the people that will do anything possible so that they won't be passed. It can be staying in the left lane too long in between passing other cars even with a long line of people waiting behind them. It can be speeding up just as they are about to get passed by someone on the right to make sure they are the first to pass the next truck. Or it can be flat out refusing to drive in any lane other than the leftmost lane because they think, "I am going as fast as anyone else could want to" or some other crazy logic they have made up.
In most cases it is a male driver that will be stricken with left lane pride, but a few women do have these tendencies. This is most likely the reason that getting passed is sometimes seen as a comment on your manhood. New cutting edge research has found that being passed does not, as was originally thought, decrease penis size in any way.
It's okay, I drive faster than you, but you're still a good person.
Unless you don't get out of my way, then I will be forced to fantasize about how I am going to make you crash and leave you dying on the side of the road. Or you could just pull back over to the right lane. Thanks!
